Fence painting over green algae? http://paintforum.co.uk/index.php?p=/discussion/131/fence-painting-over-green-algaes Wed, 15 Feb 2012 12:28:19 -0500 KevinM 131@/index.php?p=/discussions The fence has heavy green algae as its shaded and all the guys are doing is basically wiping the area with a rag before applying Fenctone paint.

Surely they would need to kill the algae first (bleach) and powerwash it off?

I spoke to the guys and their only doing what they`ve been told do and that they dont need to kill/remove the algae because they are using Fencetone.

any advice much appreciated..

Painting a tiled floor http://paintforum.co.uk/index.php?p=/discussion/105/painting-a-tiled-floor Wed, 18 May 2011 12:03:38 -0400 Enquiry 105@/index.php?p=/discussions Hairline cracks in kitchen floor http://paintforum.co.uk/index.php?p=/discussion/116/hairline-cracks-in-kitchen-floor Wed, 18 May 2011 12:19:41 -0400 Enquiry 116@/index.php?p=/discussions Making my stone floor easier to clean? http://paintforum.co.uk/index.php?p=/discussion/124/making-my-stone-floor-easier-to-cleans Wed, 24 Aug 2011 06:42:49 -0400 wilko1 124@/index.php?p=/discussions Hello All,

I have just moved to an old house that has what can only be described as having stone slabs on the floor of both the kitchen and bathroom.  These stones look like textured garden slabs to me, but they do look nice in the kitchen.  They are currently a very porous matt finish and I'm looking to make them easier to clean by coating them in some kind of product which stops water from just absorbing into them instantly.  Currently they are rough to touch and this causes havoc with the mop.  So to confirm, we like the colour of our tiles but want to coat them in something that protects and makes them easier to clean.  These slabs are cemented to the floor so cannot be moved.

Secondly, I have a similar issue in the bathroom, these tiles are exactly the same, but in a dark grey colourway instead of the cream in the kitchen, these always look patchy with some areas drying a different colour to others after washing, making the floor never look clean.  With this one I would like to turn them into more of a black colour, whilst also sealing them properly for ease of cleaning.  These particular slabs have been treated when we first moved in with Homebase natural stone sealer, but this seems to of had little effect.  i don't mind if there is a sheen on this particulat floor as this will add to the effect.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice anyone can provide with this issue.

Regards

Lee

Painting a victorian galvanised steel clad house http://paintforum.co.uk/index.php?p=/discussion/121/painting-a-victorian-galvanised-steel-clad-house Sun, 10 Jul 2011 15:50:28 -0400 andymunro 121@/index.php?p=/discussions
I am looking at stripping and painting the exterior of our house which is predominantly clad in corrugated galvanised steel of various ages. Some of the older cladding clearly has a red primer base coat that appears to adhering very well to the steel below with the paint on top of this peeling off. The newer sections of galvanised steel have been badly painted apparently with no primer or etching of the galvanised coating. Finally some of the steel is showing signs of corrosion, both white and red residues suggesting partial to total loss of the galvanistion. My questions are:
1) For corroded sections should these be sanded down, cold galvanised and then top coated. Suggestions on which paints?
2) House in general. I was thinking of a Noxyde or Peganox base coat with a Paracem top coat. But what is the best way to clean and prime these sections?

Is pressure washing with a fine sand the best way or scrub down by hand with wire brush etc. Should the newer sections of galvanised steel be etched or primed first or will Noxyde / Paracem adhere fine? The older sections of cladding have a good base layer primer so not too keen about taking this off but will Noxyde or Peganox adhere well to this?
I basically want to do a good job first time round and would like some advice.

Lots of questions! Thanks
Andy
